This is one in an occasional series of "pet peeve" posts.
I absolutely hate it when I visit a winery Web site and I can't figure out where they are. This happens more often than you might think. Pictures of vineyards in full leaf look remarkably similar, as do happy owners in denim. Dogs are remarkably alike in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres.
Are you in Napa, Australia or France? Michigan, Canada, or Missouri? It's good to remember that not everyone who visits your site knows where the Finger Lakes (or the Barossa Valley) lie. I know *you* think it's obvious, but unless there are actual, you know, words that say where your winery is located, many people won't know.
The fix is easy. Country and region ("Making great wine in Sonoma County, California") above the fold in a way that doesn't look like an afterthought.
Thank you for listening.
Oops! Guilty as charged!
I've just updated the header of my wine blog at http://vinosambiz.blogspot.com. Thanks for that obvious tip.

Wow, if you don't know where the Finger Lakes wine region is, you shouldn't be on (or operating) a winery website. Let's face it, their secret is out. They are the largest wine producing region in the east and recognized as the top producer of Rieslings in the world!

Sue: I'm not sure a casual visitor from outside the US would know. Worse, there are Finger Lakes winery Web sites which don't mention that's where the winery is located (at least not unless you take time check the contact page and see a NY address).
I'm going to assume your first sentence is tongue-in-cheek. :)
