Based on our research, winery Web sites that tackle their own shopping cart and checkout process typically don't do it very well (one of the reasons to consider outsourcing fulfillment to someone like Inertia, eWinery, or Cultivate). Here's a list of eight things that your shopping experience should provide:
- A link to the shopping cart on every page
- The ability to edit your cart before checking out
- Upsell, if appropriate
- Reassurance about safety and security
- Clarity about what personal information is being gathered
- Frequently-asked Questions
- Shipping information
- Order Progress
Here's the full article, with illustrative screen captures and more details.

Fair enough, John. I chose the wrong word. Inertia, eWinerySolutions, and Cultivate are really e-commerce partners for wineries.
My bad!
