I'm working on our March newsletter, but this post, Growing A Business Website, from usability guru Jakob Nielsen caught my eye. In it, he outlines these three design priorities
- Communicate clearly
- Provide information users want
- Offer simple, consistent page design, clear navigation
If you're building a new site, or considering a re-design, this post provides a good overview of why the latest technology (that your programmer or designer may want to sell you on using) may not be the best choice.
Hey, I'm a technology guy, and I always welcome an opportunity to expand my skills on a client engagement. But it's good to remember that the purpose of your winery Web site is, ultimately, to sell more of your wine. The simple secret to doing that is helping the people visiting your Web site to get what they came for, as efficiently and pleasantly as possible.
It's not rocket surgery (but it does require thinking like a visitor).
