Google's pay-per-click advertising service, Google AdWords, is something that certain wineries should consider as a method of bringing traffic to their Web site. AdWords is basically free unless it works, and it offers good control over costs, so experimenting with it is worth some investment of time and money once you're confident that your site will "convert" that traffic (directly or indirectly) into increased sales.
As I was thinking about that, I wondered what searching for "wine marketing" (a logical phrase related to The Winery Web Site Report) would bring up in the right column of Google's search results (where AdWords text ads are displayed).
Lo and behold: Wark Communications is there at the top (Wark is the brainchild of Tom Wark, who writes the provocative FERMENTATIONS weblog on wine PR). Way to go, Tom!
I'd be interested in hearing about the experience any wineries which are already using AdWords to promote their wines.
